BERLIN, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- The use of methamphetamine is on the rise in Germany. National statistics for meth use in Germany for 2012 are not yet available, but in Bavaria the number of first time users, as documented by police, grew from 24 in 2009 to 456 in 2012.
In Saxony Anhalt, a 50 percent percent increase in crystal meth use last year, police said.
"The discovered amounts and the cases involving crystal have shown a significant increase for 2012," a spokeswoman for the Federal Criminal Office said.
Some areas of Germany saw as large as a 70 percent increase in meth users from 2010 to 2011. Meth, which is easy and inexpensive to manufacture, is being imported into Germany from the Czech Republic and Africa, Bild said.

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Police said a man in Florida killed his two sons, and told his wife she would live so she could suffer from the children's deaths. Isidro Zavala, of Mexico, allegedly strangled his 12-year-old son Eduardo with a rope and shot his 11-year-old son Mario.
Τhe murders occurred at 2 a.m. police said. Zavala's estranged wife, Victoria Flores Zavala, attempted to stop him and pleaded with him to kill her instead, South Florida Sentinel reported.
Zavala, 45, killed himself with two shots and left behind a note to the couple's 19-year-old son, who was not living in the home and is alive.
Zavala's wife filed for divorce in October.
Neighbors told the South Florida Sentinel they were stunned by the killing and said the family seemed quiet and hard-working. But kids in the neighborhood said the two victims seemed afraid of their father.
