NEW YORK, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Leaders of a satanic religious group say they will rally in Florida to thank Gov. Rick Scott for signing a bill liberalizing rules on prayer in public schools.
The new state law gives students "sole discretion in determining whether an inspirational message is to be delivered" at student assemblies, and forbids school officials from involvement in such decisions, ABC News reported Tuesday.
The Satanic Temple, founded in New York, plans to rally in the Florida capital, Tallahassee, Jan. 25, to thank Scott for signing a bill that temple spokesman Lucien Graves said "does a lot to support religious diversity."
In a statement, the Satanic Temple said the Florida law "has reaffirmed our American freedom to practice our faith openly, allowing our Satanic children the freedom to pray in school."
In response to an ABC News inquiry about the Satanic Temple rally, Scott's press secretary said in an email: "This is a great country. Everyone has a voice."
