BACKGROUND:

On November 5-9, 2009, the forthcoming “7th Macedonian-North American Conference on Macedonian Studies” will take place at the University of Utah at Salt Lake City.

Conference topics and speakers include “Alexander the Great and mythic Homelands” and presenters such as revisionist academics, Professor Emilija Crvenkovska, of the University of Skopje and who is funded by the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) and professor Loring Danforth who has written a number of revisionist history books that questions Greek historical facts relating to Macedonia from ancient to modern and who adheres to Marshal Tito’s falsehoods and revisionist claims.

Today, FYROM continues to provoke Greece, usurping history which has been Hellenic for thousands of years. Actions over the years such as distortion of geographic maps, naming its airport “Alexander the Great,” revisionists textbooks in schools, and inflammatory comments by top government officials, and general hostile propaganda, encourages new generations in FYROM to cultivate hostile sentiments against Greece.

By allowing this lecture, the University of Utah at Salt Lake City runs the risk of being scrutinized for endorsing a conference whose sole purpose is to promote historical revisionism and distortions with regards to the Greek history of Macedonia.

Contact the office of the President of the University of Utah at Salt Lake City to ask him to reconsider allowing the conference to take place on the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

Dear Mr President

I am writing to urge you, while it is still time, to cancel the forthcoming "7th Macedonian-North American Conference on Macedonian Studies" programmed to take place at the University of Utah at Salt Lake City, in November 5-9 2009, and in doing so to save the reputation of your University.

I am disgusted and disappointed that your prestigious University, in a country like the USA, which is supposed to be the bastion of Freedom and Democracy bents in issues of money over Honour and Truth.
Due to the fact that you receive funding from the Turkish Coalition of America you set up a Turkish studies programme (http://www.mec.utah.edu/turkish/?pageId=3702).
Mr President will you include in this programme the description of the Hellenic, Armenian and Assyrian Genocides of 4 million souls by the Turks?
Will you include in your programme the ethnic cleansing the Greeks of Constantinople were subjected to in the 1950s?
Will you describe the methodical efforts of the Turkey to populate the occupied, by Turkey, part of Cyprus with ethnically Turkish people moved there from the midle of Anatolia?
It seems now that the University of Utah expands its efforts to reshape the history of South East Europe, by becoming the stage for the orchestration of even more lies against the historical truth of the region.
By allowing the above mentioned event to proceed your University will become colleague to a concerted campaign to falsify the history of the Balkan area, written over millennia and well before the current inhabitants of FYROM, ethnically Slavic and Albanian, appeared in the area they claim to be Macedonia.
This campaign has started with Marshal Tito's revisionist claims, and aims at fulfilling FYROM's irredentist views by annexing Greek lands to FYROM. Macedonia is Hellenic from times immemorial and to this fact the most qualified and knowledgeable experts in the field attest with their letter to the newly elected President Obama (please see the attached), urging him as well to intervene to stop this effort to redraw borders in the Balkans, which has rightly been termed as the "cinder box" of Europe. By allowing this conference to proceed, you are adding some more sparks with catastrophic consequences.

If you have any ethical code, dignity and honour I urge you to 1. cancel the planned conference2. stop being part of the methodical revisionist effort in reshaping the History of the South East of Europe and instead 3. consider organising a conference in the History of the Greek province of Macedonia and its neighbouring lands, with invited speakers drawn from the list of academics signing the attached letter. Only then you will be serving the one and only historical truth.

το πανό που γράφει "Ντροπή στους Έλληνες τρομοκράτες που σκοτώνουν

ΥΓ2.Aτυπη συνάντηση γνωριμίας με τον ομόλογό του της ΠΓΔΜ Νίκολα Γκρούεφσκι θα έχει σήμερα στο περιθώριο του Ευρωπαϊκού Συμβουλίου, ο πρωθυπουργός Γ. Παπανδρέου.

Η συνάντηση συμφωνήθηκε μετά απο πρόταση του Έλληνα πρωθυπουργού, σε τηλεφωνική επικοινωνία των δύο ανδρών κατά την οποία ο κ. Γκρούεφσκι συνεχάρη τον κ. Παπανδρέου για την εκλογή του.

Χθες σε δηλώσεις μετά τη συνάντησή του με τον ύπατο εκπρόσωπο για την εξωτερική πολιτική της Ε.Ε., Χαβιέρ Σολάνα, ο κ. Γκρούεφσκι διεμήνυσε πως «η πολιτική της άσκησης βέτο δεν έχει συμβάλει στην επίτευξη προόδου» στο θέμα της ονομασίας.

Όσον για την πιθανότητα εξεύρεσης λύσης στο αμέσως προσεχές διάστημα, ο πρωθυπουργός της γειτονικής χώρας αρκέστηκε στην επισήμανση ότι «από την πλευρά του θα καταβάλλει κάθε προσπάθεια» για να καταστεί δυνατό κάτι τέτοιο.

Επιπρόσθετα, ο κ. Γκρούεφσκι εξέφρασε την ελπίδα η νέα ελληνική κυβέρνηση να αναγάγει το θέμα της επίλυσης του ονόματος ως προτεραιότητά της, διαβεβαιώνοντας παράλληλα για την ετοιμότητα της κυβέρνησής του να εργαστεί προς την κατεύθυνση της εξεύρεσης λύσης στο εν λόγω θέμα το συντομότερο δυνατό.

Ο κ. Σολάνα επεσήμανε την ανάγκη επίλυσης του ζητήματος της ονομασίας της ΠΓΔΜ το συντομότερο δυνατό και εξέφρασε την πεποίθηση ότι οι δύο πλευρές θα καταβάλλουν κάθε προσπάθεια για την εξεύρεση λύσης τονίζοντας ωστόσο πως ο ίδιος δεν διαθέτει «κάποια μαγική φόρμουλα» η οποία θα μπορούσε να τεθεί στο τραπέζι των διαπραγματεύσεων.

Ο κ. Σολάνα χαρακτήρισε θετική την έκθεση της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής για την ΠΓΔΜ τονίζοντας ότι πρόκειται για μία εισήγηση, η οποία φέρνει την ΠΓΔΜ πιο κοντά στην ΕΕ. Δεν παρέλειψε, ωστόσο, να επισημάνει πως «αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι έχουν γίνει όλα όσα θα έπρεπε να γίνουν».

Κληθείς εξάλλου να σχολιάσει την ελληνική στάση στο θέμα της ονομασίας, ο Χ. Σολάνα εκτίμησε ότι τόσο η ηγεσία της ΠΓΔΜ όσο και ο Έλληνας πρωθυπουργός Γιώργος Παπανδρέου, τον οποίο, όπως είπε, γνωρίζει πολύ καλά και είναι φίλος του, θα καταβάλλουν κάθε προσπάθεια για την εξεύρεση λύσης στο θέμα της ονομασίας.

Ερωτηθείς τέλος για το ενδεχόμενο προκήρυξης δημοψηφίσματος σχετικά με το θέμα του ονόματος, ο Χ. Σολάνα, αφού παρατήρησε ότι ο θεσμός αυτός δεν συνάδει με το πολίτευμα της αντιπροσωπευτικής δημοκρατίας, εξέφρασε επιφυλάξεις για το κατά πόσον μια τέτοια εξέλιξη θα συμβάλει στην επιτάχυνση της διαδικασίας.

YΠΕΞ: Ενταξιακές χωρίς λύση δεν γίνεται

«Η ΠΓΔΜ δεν μπορεί να ξεκινήσει ενταξιακές συνομιλίες με την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση έως ότου λυθεί η διαφωνία σχετικά με την ονομασία της», ξεκαθάρισε από την πλευρά του ο Έλληνας αναπληρωτής υπουργός Εξωτερικών Δημήτρης Δρούτσας μιλώντας στο πρακτορείο Reuters.

«Το θέμα της ονομασίας θα πρέπει να λυθεί πριν καν υπάρξει σκέψη για το άνοιγμα ενταξιακών διαπραγματεύσεων με τα Σκόπια», τόνισε ο κ. Δρούτσας και πρόσθεσε: «Αυτή είναι μία πολύ σαφής και αυστηρή γραμμή που υιοθετεί η Ελλάδα. Εμείς την αποκαλούμε εθνική κόκκινη γραμμή».
